Mark’s new album, “Fighting with your Shadow” will be released on Ports of Call Music on May 2nd 2025

Having been exploring more folk-tinged, singer-songwriter or global fusion avenues in recent years, with “Fighting with your Shadow”, Mark returns to his rock’n’roll/punk-pop roots with gusto, with a collection of energetic, catchy songs that you will have difficulty getting out of your head.

The album is a mix of songs from a few different musical strands Mark has been following of late. He met bass player Christophe Borca when they both were invited to participate in Damon Albarn’s Africa Express event in London in 2019. They continued working together in Paris, along with drummer Grégor Heuzé, with whom Chris had previously had a successful electronic duo called Interlope.

In parallel, Mark was also recording new songs with his old musical companion Stéphane Doucerain, with whom he palyed in bands such as Impure Thoughts and Two Dollar Bash, as well as developing tracks on his own and in collaboration with other musicians. Several songs were inspired by colourful phrases that popped up in conversation, including the title track, which originated in something said late at night after a gig by the great Mozambican singer-songwriter Chico Antonio, It was planned that Chico would participate in the recording, but, sadly, he passed away before it could be done. The album is dedicated to Chico.
